Washington County first grader shining thanks to STARS
As working parents, we wanted to find a high quality child care center so we would not worry about our child while we were at work knowing he is well taken care of in a safe, positive learning environment. William has been enrolled with SmartKids Child Care and Learning Center, a Keystone STAR 3 program in Canonsburg, since he was nine months old. The Director, Renee, and all of his teachers are very knowledgeable of Child Development and the importance of early learning. They keep up to date with the child development and any safety courses not only for the Keystone STARS program, but more importantly for the children.
They gave us every opportunity to be involved with our child’s development whether it was parent/teacher conferences to show us his assessments/progress, reading to his class, chaperone field trips or helping us to get to know other parents in his class through picnics and parent group meetings.
William thrived on consistence of their routines, activities that they do for each of his appropriate age levels as the years went by with new and exciting lessons. We knew that he was eating nutritious meals because he told us what he would eat and he would try new foods for them.
William has been exposed to a diverse education. He learned about other cultures and customs. He was so impressed learning about Japan, and seeing the costumes (the teacher wore a kimono) that he wants to vacation in Japan. It does not matter what economic status the child is in – each child is getting the one-on-one attention needed to learn in every area of development (cognitive, gross motor skills, social skills, etc.) according to each individuals’ ability. The director and the teachers strive to be the utmost educators for the children in their early years and beyond.
William’s transition to Kindergarten was very smooth and exciting. We were nervous parents as one would expect. However, William sailed through the first day very eager to go on the day care van so they can transport him. We of course met him at the school; we were not going to miss his first day of Kindergarten. He is now nearing the end of Kindergarten. He has mastered all his studies and even received The Principal’s Award for Citizenship.
Because William had all of these great educational experiences at the SmartKids Child Care and Learning Center, he is off to a “smart” start for a bright future!
