Franklin County's Keanna S. Shines in school-age program

KeannaSo-FranklinKeanna and her family find support at STAR 3 Bright Beginnings Child Care that helps them move from homeless to hopeful for the future.

Keanna has attended Bright Beginnings Child Care for a little over 3 years. During this time Keanna has had the opportunity to learn and grow in our School Age program. Keanna’s mother, Miss Shannon, works at Bright Beginnings in the Infant Room. Before finding employment here, Miss Shannon, Keanna, and her older sister, Kelsey lived at the homeless shelter here in Waynesboro. It was a very scary experience for their small family but they were eventually able to move up the waiting list for low-income housing, and have an apartment of their own. Miss Shannon has found a support system for herself and her family in the staff and other parents at Bright Beginnings. Keanna came to us a shy and quiet little girl. She has blossomed into a beautiful young lady who works hard in school and has made lots of friends at school and at day care. Keanna’s favorite activities are in the summer when the school age class takes field trips twice a week. She loves to swim at Northside Pool and play in the streams at local parks. As Bright Beginnings has earned a higher STAR rating, Keanna has had the opportunity to learn from the new materials in her classroom and on the playground. Last summer she learned how to double-dutch jump rope with the other girls. Keanna has learned many social skills and continues to grow academically too. Miss Amber has been Keanna’s teacher during her time here at Bright Beginnings. Because they have such a close relationship, Miss Amber is able to plan activities that meet Keanna’s needs and interests. Keanna and her family enjoy many benefits from their participation in a Keystone STARS program.
